Rehabilitation Services
Heron Assist is registered in Victoria as a Rehabilitation Provider with the Victorian WorkCover Authority. Early intervention is a key factor in achieving a successful “Return to Work” outcome. Ideally, the rehabilitation process should begin the minute an injury has occurred. Heron Assist specialises in designing tailored industry management systems that match an organisation’s culture and needs. This promotes an immediate and effective response to accidents in the workplace. Our rehabilitation services include:

Initial Assessments
An Initial Assessment is an examination of the history of injury, current medical situation, education, employment history, work place, duties and family/social factors, in order to identify the barriers preventing return to work. The Initial Assessment aims to establish a management strategy for achieving a return to work outcome, as well as satisfying the employee’s rehabilitation needs. Activities may include:

  • Meeting with the employer and employee
  • Consultations with the doctor and professionals
  • Workplace visits to identify/negotiate suitable duties, and
  • The development of a return to work plan.

Workplace Assessments
This service is used to establish suitable duties and a realistic return to work plan leading to a successful return to work with the same or different employer. The purpose of the Workplace Assessment is to:

  • Identify the critical demands of all work tasks (psychological, physical, social and environmental)
  • Establish the work related performance criteria against which the employee’s functional capacity is evaluated.

Functional Capacity Assessments
This assessment is an objective measurement of the injured employee’s existing and potential functional work capacity. The Functional Capacity Assessment is designed to evaluate the employee’s performance against identified work related criteria and potential for work.

Return to Work Plans
A Return to Work Plan is designed to identify methods of temporarily or permanently modifying the work demands of an employee’s job, to facilitate a safe return to work. In addition, we evaluate and identify workplace-based strategies that will assist workers in reaching their full potential in the workplace.

Daily Living Assessment
Daily Living Assessments are conducted when there is a need to assess the personal, domestic and community activities that individuals conduct as part of every day life. The Assessment evaluates the impact that the injury has had on the individual’s ability to carry out everyday activities, and assesses the level of independence an individual has attained following the injury.
