Delivery and Training Services
At Heron Assess, we are equipped with the right expertise and
industry accreditation to undertake delivery, training and
assessment services for Australian Qualification Framework
(AQF) qualifications.
What’s more, we are a fully accredited Registered Training
Organisation (RTO No. 22281). This enables us to authorise
the issue of Australian recognised AQF qualifications to applicants
who undergo either our delivery/assessment or assessment
only (Recognition of Prior Learning) process, and are identified
as meeting the industry criterion within our scope of registration.

Modes of Delivery
On-the-job delivery has the support of your workplace to conduct training with the assistance of the RTO Trainer and an appropriately designated Workplace Supervisor. Visits will be every six weeks, of 1 – 2 hour duration by the Trainer, with external communication, as needed for the Learner. A minimum of 3 hours per week allowed by the employer for the Learner to undertake set workbook, work-based or training requested tasks within the workplace environment. Some off-the-job classroom based delivery may be required to meet all the competencies within a qualification.
Total Duration of Program, the duration of the program can vary, depending on the level of the qualification being sought. And even then is a guide only as each individual will reach understanding and competency at varying timeframes.
Assessment arrangements through either off-the-job recognition of prior learning (RPL) or delivery and assessment through on-the-job practical demonstration and may at times be based on an integrated assessment of both methods.
Recognition of Prior Learning
HERON ASSESS recognises skills and knowledge gained through life experiences, work experiences, other courses/qualifications and on-the-job training through its Recognition of Prior Learning process. The main focus is on the learning outcomes of these prior experiences and relating these directly to the course/qualification outcomes.
-
It may mean you complete your qualification sooner or that you have more time to spend on other units.
-
You will not be repeating learning you have already gained.
-
You will be given formal recognition of knowledge you have gained in other situations.
Assessment Evidence Requirements
-
Portfolio work
-
Practical Demonstration/Skills Testing (workplace and/or simulated)
-
Questioning (Oral and written)
-
Log Book of on-the-job work
-

Who can benefit?
A range of individuals can benefit, including:
-
All individuals seeking to develop their educational pathways
-
Experienced yet unqualified trades people who require certification, e.g. for employment in today’s market or for advancement in their current job
-
Trades people with outdated qualifications e.g. where your certification is no longer recognised in your industry, or when you are returning to the workforce after a period of absence or are returning to your original trade after a period of employment using different skills
-
Trades people who have incomplete qualifications
-
Trades people who no longer have proof of their credentials
-
Trainees or apprentices whose employer requires an RTO delivery or assessment service
-
Employers requesting employee qualifications
-
Employers requesting pre-training assessment of employees for the identification of existing competencies, or AQF competency level and competency gaps, so that relevant training can be accessed
-

For those wishing to apply as part of a migration purpose, it’s important to note that although an AQF qualification may assist a migration applicant, there is no guarantee of successful recognition by an appropriate trade recognition body in Australia.
Language, Literacy and Numeracy Considerations
What’s important to know is this doesn’t have to impede the assessment process. In fact, at Heron Assess, we utilise a number of methods to allow for the LL&N needs of candidates without affecting the integrity of the assessment involved.
These methods include, but are not limited to:
-
Writing assessment material in plain and simple English
-
Reading written material to the participant
-
Providing a scribe for participants who cannot write
-
Interviewing supervisors about their work
-
Asking participants to demonstrate their skills practically on the job
